A Softphone (Software Phone) is a new innovation that will provide a fully functional VoIP telephone on
your desktop or laptop computer.
Your Softphone will change the way you look at your telephone system, from integration with CRM, email
and other desktop software to unrivaled portability as your extension and telephone number will follow
you anywhere in the world you have access to an Internet connection.
The ClarityIP System makes use of the X-Lite Softphone from Counterpath.
The X-Lite 3.0 softphone client from Counterpath offers all the productivity of a traditional telephone right
from your Windows desktop. Users can either click on the on screen keypad with their mouse or use
their keyboard to dial, answer, manage calls and availability. The X-Lite will operate on virtually any
broadband circuit, whether wired in the office or from the Wi-Fi hotspot in your local coffee shop.

Download and Configuration
The X-Lite may be downloaded free of charge from: www.counterpath.net
Simply choose the “Download X-Lite Free” link and select the appropriate version for your platform. The
download will take approximately five minutes on a standard (512kbit) broadband connection.
Configuration of your X-Lite is a simple process which will take no more than a couple of minutes. Upon
completion of the download, run the installation file then follow through the installation wizard as
directed. When running X-Lite for the first time you will be asked to configure your account and
presented with the “SIP Accounts” window.
SIP Accounts
Press the “Add...” button and you will be presented with the “Account” screen:
Account
Display Name may be specified as anything you wish, for the remaining User Details sections enter the
values you were given when your account was created. The remaining details should be left as default.
Once you have entered your details correctly, move on to the next tab, “Voicemail”
Ensure the “Check for voice mail” box is ticked and enter *97 in the “Number to dial for checking
voicemail” box. Once this information has been entered move on to the “Topology” tab.
Topology
Select Discover global address under the IP address section. Under STUN server choose “Use specified
server” and enter stun.sipgate.net:10000 as the address. Ensure the “Enable ICE” box is ticked and then
press “OK” to complete your account configuration.
If your account configuration has been successful, you will see a screen similar to that above, displaying
your username. You can now make calls from your computer.

Information Display Panel
The Contacts panel displays a user's contacts and allows multiple contact methods for them, including
• SIP Extension (Internal)
• Home / Business Phone
• Mobile
• Email
Contacts can be organised by category, Family, Friends, Work etc. Additional groups can be added and
configured easily. You may also import your contacts from your Microsoft Outlook Address Book with
only a couple of mouse clicks by using the Import Contacts Wizard.
